Traditional Basilicata Products

Despite being a very small region, Basilicata offers a wide range of traditional Basilicata wine and food products. The main ingredient in the Basilicata cuisine is bread and particularly famous is Matera. In the mountainous areas, cheeses made with the Podolica cattle breed are well-known, like Caciocavallo Podolico DOP, Pecorino canestrato and the Pecorino di Filiano. A noteworthy example of traditional Basilicata product is the local pasta known as the strangolapreti. Basilicata has one of the most suitable territories for Aglianico grapes growing, in the Vulture area. Basilicata is a region located in the south of Italy, small and mostly mountainous and hilly, bordered in small part by the Lonic sea.
