Castello Banfi's Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Poggio alle Mura has an intense and brilliant ruby red color, typical of wines made from Sangiovese grapes. On the nose, it offers a complex and enveloping bouquet, with notes of ripe red fruits such as cherries and plums, caressed by hints of sweet spices, tobacco and light floral scents. On the palate, this wine stands out for its important structure and elegance. The tannins are well integrated, giving the wine a pleasant smoothness, while balanced acidity contributes to good flavor persistence. Red fruit flavors emerge, accompanied by nuances of chocolate, coffee and slightly earthy notes, giving depth and complexity to the sip. Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Poggio alle Mura Castello Banfi is one of Tuscany's most prestigious wines, produced in the territory of Montalcino, a hilly area located south of Siena. This area is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with cold, wet winters and hot, dry summers, ideal for growing vines. From an agronomic point of view, the vineyards from which this wine comes are located on hills ranging from 200 to 350 meters above sea level, with southeast and southwest exposure. The soil is mainly clay and limestone, with the presence of skeleton and gravel, which promotes water drainage and deep rooting of the vines. The grape variety used is Sangiovese, known locally as Brunello. As for the production process, after harvesting, which is done manually between late September and early October, the grapes are destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This is followed by maceration on the skins for about 10-12 days to extract color and tannins. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place, a process that converts malic acid into lactic acid, making the wine softer and rounder. Aging of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Poggio alle Mura Castello Banfi takes place in French oak barrels for at least two years, followed by further aging in bottles for at least six months before release. This long aging process helps to develop the wine's aromatic and gustatory complexity, making it one of the world's most appreciated wines.

Combinations

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Poggio alle Mura Castello Banfi is a wine of great structure and complexity, a perfect match for rich, flavorful dishes. An ideal first pairing might be with a dish of pasta with wild boar ragout, where the robustness of the wine manages to balance the power of the sauce. Another perfect pairing is with bistecca alla fiorentina, a typical Tuscan dish. The succulence of the meat and its aromatic intensity blend with the ripe fruit and spice notes of the wine, creating an unforgettable marriage of flavors. As for cheeses, Brunello di Montalcino pairs beautifully with aged cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano, which with its savoriness and texture manages to contrast the intensity of the wine. Finally, a bolder pairing might be with a dish of truffled porcini mushrooms. The earthy taste of the mushrooms marries perfectly with the underbrush notes of the wine, creating a truly unique balance of flavors.
