Riccafana is a company based in Monte Orfano in the Franciacorta area where the terroir is very peculiar due to the heterogenous calcareous soils which give savoury and fresh aromas to the wines. The founder of the company is Giovanni Fratus; after gaining some work experiences in Switzerland and Germany, he came back to Franciacorta beginning his work of the recovery of the vineyards and of the old 15th-century farmhouse, which today is Riccafana. Giovanni Fratus successor is his son Riccardo, who in 2002 decided to transform the entire production to organic, while also trying to internationalize the production without loosing the deep links with the territory. Today the company runs around 20 hectares of vineyards on the south slopes of the Orfano Mount producing around 120,000 bottles.
