Rosso di Montalcino DOC is a red wine produced in the area of the municipality of Montalcino, Tuscany. The Montalcino area is characterized by hills and valleys that provide an ideal microclimate for growing vines, with altitudes ranging from 150 to 500 meters above sea level. Col d'Orcia is one of the most renowned wineries in the area and produces an excellent Rosso di Montalcino. Col d'Orcia's vineyards cover an area of approximately 540 hectares, of which 142 are dedicated to the cultivation of Sangiovese, the main grape used in the production of Rosso di Montalcino. This variety of Sangiovese is known locally as "Brunello," and produces wines of great structure and complexity. The process of making Rosso di Montalcino begins with the manual harvesting of the Sangiovese grapes, which generally takes place between September and October. After crushing and fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels for at least 12 months, followed by an additional period of bottle aging before being marketed. Rosso di Montalcino DOC Col d'Orcia is deep ruby red in color, with complex aromas of red fruits and spices. In the mouth it is elegant, with well-integrated tannins and a pleasant freshness. It pairs perfectly with meat dishes, aged cheeses and traditional Tuscan dishes such as ribollita or pappa al pomodoro.
